Flu season is here, and at SouthCoast Health Pediatrics, we want to help keep your child safe! The flu can be especially tough on kids, but the good news is that the flu vaccine is the best way to protect them—and it’s not too late to get it.

Who Needs the Flu Vaccine?

The flu vaccine is recommended for all children 6 months and older. If this is your baby’s first flu shot, they will need a second dose (booster) at least one month later to make sure they have full protection. Since children’s immune systems are still developing, they are more vulnerable to flu complications. Getting them vaccinated can reduce the risk of serious illness, missed school days, and even hospitalizations.

How the Flu Affects Kids

Flu symptoms can last one to two weeks, leaving children feeling miserable with fever, chills, cough, congestion, body aches, and fatigue. Even after the worst symptoms go away, lingering cough and tiredness can stick around. In some cases, the flu can lead to serious complications like pneumonia, especially in young children and those with underlying health conditions.
