We don't want your choice of health insurance to get in the way of you receiving SouthCoast Health's top quality care. That's why SouthCoast Health participates with most major insurance carriers. However, now more than ever, ongoing changes with health insurance plans make it especially important for you to understand your coverage and know the costs YOU are responsible for when visiting your physician, having tests, and undergoing procedures. For this reason, SouthCoast Health recommends that you learn the details of your plan before upcoming health care visits.
Your insurance plan may require multiple co-pays, higher deductibles, and co-insurance. Coverage will depend on the type of plan your employer has chosen and the options available to you. You can learn the details of your policy by visiting your insurance company’s website or contacting its customer/member services department. The 2003 Medicare Modernization Act introduced several new options for Medicare eligible patients. These plans are called Medicare Advantage Plans, and currently there are over 450 of them nationwide, offered by a number of private insurance companies. Because SouthCoast Health does not participate with all of these plans, we want to provide you with information regarding our participation so that you can include this in your decision-making process. SouthCoast Health will of course continue to participate fully with Medicare Part B (traditional Medicare).
While SouthCoast Health does not endorse Medicare Advantage Plans over traditional Medicare and encourages you to research them carefully, we know that some of our patients will select one for their healthcare coverage. SouthCoast Health participates in Medicare Advantage Plans as follows:
Should you enroll with a plan that SouthCoast Health does not accept, your physician can continue to see you on a self-pay basis.
If you have any questions about SouthCoast Health's participation in Medicare Advantage plans, please contact your physician's office directly or call SouthCoast Health at 912.691.3600.
