November is National Diabetes Awareness Month and recently SouthCoast Health family medicine physician, Dr. Wesley Ensley appeared on WTOC's Morning Break to address this condition. He explained what diabetes is, the two different types of diabetes, who it affects the most in our community, and symptoms to look out for as a sign of diabetes.
Dr. Ensley shared that obesity and high alcohol consumption are the highest risk factors for developing diabetes. If you are showing signs of diabetes or have a diagnosis of it, partnering with your healthcare providers will help you live with this condition. However, it is not to be taken lightly. Diabetes is the seventh leading cause of death.
