Serving the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire of Georgia and South Carolina.
Dr. Kayla Poe grew up in the small town of Surrency, Georgia. She completed her undergraduate degree in biology at Georgia Southern University. She earned her medical degree from Mercer University School of Medicine, followed by her first year of internal medicine residency at Redmond Regional Medical Center in Rome, Georgia. After getting married, Dr. Poe transferred and completed her last two years of internal medicine at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, Georgia.
At a young age, she was inspired to pursue a career in the medical field after witnessing the attentive healthcare her grandparents received during their later years.
“Seeing the compassionate care my grandparents received when they were ill inspired me to pursue a career in medicine,” Dr. Poe explains. “I chose internal medicine because I wanted to focus on the adult and older population, who I feel often don’t receive the care they deserve.”
A board-eligible internist, Dr. Poe is a member of the American College of Physicians (ACP) and the American Medical Association. Additionally, Dr. Poe is a peer-reviewed published author writing on topics such as kidney and liver transplant outcomes.
Dr. Poe values the relationships she builds with her patients, enjoying the collaborative process of setting and achieving health goals.
“I love working alongside my patients to personalize their care plans to ensure they meet their health goals and receive the best care possible,” says Dr. Poe.
She stays updated with the latest advancements in internal medicine through reading, discussions with colleagues, and resources provided by the ACP. Outside of work, Dr. Poe enjoys horseback riding, gardening, cooking, and spending time with family.
