Serving the Lowcountry and Coastal Empire of Georgia and South Carolina.
At 10 years old, Dr. Knight knew that he wanted to be a doctor. He wanted to serve people and help them with the most precious thing they have – their health. His passion for medicine grew from his own medical experiences that began when he was diagnosed with a brain tumor at 4 years old. By the time he completed treatment, he was in 4th grade at Savannah Christian Preparatory School.
He was intently focused on making good grades throughout high school and undergraduate college. Dr. Knight received undergraduate degrees with honors from Mercer University in Macon, GA in both biology and Spanish. He felt learning Spanish would help him communicate effectively with more patients. His activities included volunteering at the local hospital on a regular basis, at a local medical mission in Savannah, and a health mission in Macon. In addition, Dr. Knight served on medical missions to rural mountainous areas in Central America. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine from Mercer University School of Medicine at the Savannah campus. Finally, Dr. Knight completed his residency in Family Medicine at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
In his practice Dr. Knight actively participates in clinical research. He understands the value that research provides as experimental treatments were part of his own medical care. He was the first patient to ever successfully take chemotherapy drugs after becoming severely allergic to the medicine he needed. The success of this protocol was published and allows patients all over the world to continue to take life saving chemotherapy drugs that they are allergic to. It is a contribution to the medical world that gives him deep satisfaction.
He chose Family Medicine as his specialty because he loves taking care of entire families as it is special to him to be able to guide each of them on their own healthcare journey. Dr. Knight cares for all ages and believes that the foundation of a healthy lifestyle is created at an early age.
“I love taking care of all ages,” Dr. Knight explained. “It’s such a fulfilling thing to be able to address every family member’s health problems and better their lives.”
Dr. Knight feels being a doctor is a privilege that he is honored to have. He is a native of Savannah and it brings him much satisfaction to be able to take care of people in his hometown. Through his experiences he has learned and understands the importance of compassion, sympathy, empathy, strength, and hope and strives to incorporate these traits into the care he gives his own patients.
When not at the office Dr. Knight enjoys photography and spending time outdoors. Traveling, going to the beach, hiking especially in the mountains, cycling, camping, kayaking and attending church are some of his favorite activities.
